The role of HR is to shape positive organizational culture

 


A positive organizational culture is the bedrock of a successful business, wherein workers are more involved, satisfied, and productive. Certainly, the HR department builds and sustains such a culture by aligning organizational values, communicating consistently with all ranks, and establishing policies to build better employee experiences. An HR department that is serious about the task of building a constructive work environment will reap rewards in terms of job satisfaction, reduced turnover, and innovation.

One of the major means through which HR can positively influence organizational culture is by making available and facilitating proper use of channels of communication within the organization. Open communication builds up trust and allows an employee to feel valued, respected, and understood. As Chatman and O'Reilly (2016) noted, communication molds perceptions about the workplace, influencing attachment to organizational values and the ability to contribute effectively. HR professionals create the avenue for open dialogue through regular feedback, team-building events, and encouragement from leadership to be transparent with communication.

On a different note, HR contributes to cultural molding through hiring practices. This helps in reinforcing the values of the company, making it much easier for its employees to work toward shared goals. A study by Cable and Edwards (2004) extracted results showing that hiring based on cultural fit enhances the commitment of employees towards the organization and is supportive of a better cohesive environment. HR contributes to increasing diversity in the workforce, where different opinions become respected thus creating an environment where employees feel free to express their ideas.

Finally, professional development and recognition are highly instrumental HR policies in sustaining an enabling culture. Activities of growth and acknowledgment of good work provide a better morale and belongings feeling. Celebrating individual achievements and emphasizing career advancement is a hallmark for employee loyalty and motivates teams toward organizational success. Jiang et al. (2012) HR departments are often seen implementing training programs, mentorship opportunities, and performance-based rewards to sustain the enabling work environment.

In the end, the multiple roles of HR in organizational culture will touch on aspects of communication, hiring, and professional development. With careful policy design, reflecting those core values the company enshrines, HR is able to ensure a work atmosphere where growth, collaboration, and satisfaction will thrive.
